Laptop and LCD Projector Usage

LCD Doesn't Recognize the Laptop

  • I always try to turn on the LCD projector before the laptop so that the computer can automatically recognize the LCD.

  • Usually you can hold down a couple of function keys and get the laptop to display on the LCD projector. The function key combination varies with the brands of computers. What fun would it be if each manufacturer did it the same way!  Some of them label the key with words like 'LCD/CRT'  or images that look like a monitor screen. Function keys are usually labeled in blue.  Here's a generalization on the function keys - that may not always be right.

Gateway laptops   =   Fn and F3 or F4

HP laptops =  Fn and F5

Dell laptops  = Fn and F8

  • If the above steps don't work to solve the problem then I usually start checking to make sure the cables have been connected properly.
