Downloading New Design Templates

PowerPoint 2007 comes pre-installed with many cool new background layouts for your slide shows, however if you find yourself wanting more there is an option to download new content from Microsoft’s website.

1)  Open PowerPoint

2)  Click the Design tab

3)  The image below shows the layout of the Design tab.  Notice the arrow circled in red?  Click it for more options.

4)  Clicking on the “More” arrow will show a screen similar to the one below.  You see categories for “This Presentation”, “Custom”, and “Built In”.  Below these categories are three options.  Click the option that says “More Themes on Microsoft Office Online…”

5) This will take you to a page on Microsoft’s website that contains several optional templates you can install.  For this tutorial, lets download the “currency” theme.  Click on the Currency theme.

6) You may be brought to a page that asks you to validate Office.  Click the “continue” button.

(At this point, depending on whether or not this is your first time downloading external content from Microsoft’s website, you may be asked to download an active x control.  Follow the directions on screen.)

7) After you have validated Office (and installed the active x control), you will be brought to the screen below.  Click “Download Now”.

8) A window similar to the one below will show up.  Leave the default location alone, and click “Save” (you may be required to click save more than once depending on the theme, as it may save different components in different locations.  If another window pops up, click save again.)

9) When you have finished saving the template, you’ll see a screen like the one below.  Scroll down the section that says “Using This Template” for further instructions on how to use your new template.
